"..a hilarious break from stereotypes. Very funny" The Age
“(it’s) hard to resist Breen’s charms because the man is truly funny.” Herald Sun
"...his punchlines seem to sneak up on you, coming from nowhere and leaving you crying with laughter" Three Weeks, Edinburgh UK
WINNER Spleen Comic of the Year 2010
WINNER Piece of Wood Award, Melbourne Comedy Festival 2011
Harley Breen is easily amongst the most naturally talented standup comedy performers working in Australia at the moment.
His relatable, high energy comic storytelling and winning charisma have effortlessly charmed audiences all over Australia and the world.
A Melbourne Comedy Festival favourite, Harley won the prestigious if ridiculously named “Piece of Wood” Award at the 2011 Melbourne Comedy Festival for his show I Heart Bunnings. Both Bunnings and another show of Harley’s, The Kingswood and I, are touring nationally throughout 2012 and 2013, and filming has just completed for a DVD release of Kingswood in the new year.
Harley has performed in literally hundreds of venues and festivals all over Australia, as well as the UK and Asia, working with major local and international talent such as Steven K. Amos, Fiona O’Lolughlin, Greg Fleet and Wil Anderson.
He boasts credits on the Comedy Channel and Network Ten’s The Circle and his corporate clients include Nova radio, CCA-Amatil, Panasonic and the Commonwealth Games Cultural Festival.
Harley’s material presents as straight-ahead high quality standup, which actually undersells its subtlety. In his sprightly reenactments of suburban machismo, or the late night frustration of a midnight radio quiz, Harley‘s sharply observed insights into common emotion carry his audiences merrily past his initial clichéd brawn towards a hilarious, shared recognition. With a background in acting and improvisation, and a strong commitment to working in education programmes, Harley is a diverse and deceptively thoughtful comedian.
